Dutch Docs off to Venice 2010

Two Dutch documentaries selected for the Venice International Film Festival in September 2010.

THE FORGOTTEN SPACE by Allan Sekula and Noël Burch is selected for the Orizzonti Competition and will have its World Premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.

SCENA DEL CRIMINE by Walter Stokman will also have its World Premiere at Venice’s parallel section Venice Days. The Venice Film Festival will take place from September 1-11, 2010.

THE FORGOTTEN SPACE seeks to understand and describe the contemporary maritime world in relation to the complex symbolic legacy of the sea. The film follows the container transport aboard ships, barges, trains and trucks, listening to workers, engineers, politicians and those marginalised by the global transport system.
The filmmakers state: Our premise is that the sea remains the crucial space of globalization. Nowhere else is the disorientation, violence, and alienation of contemporary capitalism more manifest, but this truth is not self-evident, and must be approached as a puzzle, or mystery, a problem to be solved.

THE FORGOTTEN SPACE is produced by Doc.Eye Film Amsterdam in co-production with WILDart Film Vienna and broadcasting company VPRO.

SCENA DEL CRIMINE shows seven views of Naples, the Italian coastal city that has been dominated by the mafia for decades. Soberly, the film creates an oppressive image of an underworld that is as elusive as it is nearby. SCENA DEL CRIMINE is part of the Venice Day section ‘Italy: Portraits and Landscapes’. The film is produced by Zeppers Film & TV in co-production with broadcasting company VPRO.
